Pantry stuff: foods to always keep stocked

Fill up your pantry

Pantry life: stuff I always keep in great amounts, to make quick warming dishes.

Through the years I have found that certain foods are great to keep and store in your pantry. Talking essential herbs and dried goods. If you are new to herbs, take this list and get them at the local store. This list is gluten free, but you can obviously add stuff like crackers (I know I would!), Italian pasta, and nice farmers bread in the freezer.

With foods like these around, you can for example make fresh tortilla’s (easy peasy – read on here), a great hummus, chilli’s and nourishing bowls. They allow you to spice up dishes or fill up whenever you have leftover veggies etc.

Let’s see, here we go.

  • smoked paprika
  • cayenne pepper
  • chilli pepper, dried whole ones
  • dried chilli flakes
  • vadouvan herbs
  • curry powder
  • cumin seeds, over baked ready to ground
  • harissa herbs
  • sumak
  • cinnamon
  • ras el hanout herbs
  • rosemary
  • oregano
  • dried thyme
  • dried sage
  • salt

Dried foods

  • beans, dried
  • chickpea’s
  • chickpea flower
  • buckwheet flower
  • dried lentils, red ones and green ones. The red lentils I tend to use for soups. The darker lentils are awesome for salads
  • corn flower
  • rice, brown preferably
  • quinoa
  • pasta, I really like chick pea pasta: it has a great firm texture, goes well with darker tasting sauces. For light sauces, use gluten free corn flower or rice pasta
  • raisins
  • cranberries

Nuts & seeds

  • nuts: walnuts, cashew nuts
  • pine nuts; sunflower seeds are likewise usable but muchos cheaper
  • pumpkin seeds
  • flaxseed
  • sesame seeds

  • olive
  • sunflower
  • tahini paste
  • sesame (love this one on my broccoli!!)

Canned stuff

  • tomatoes; chopped and skinned ones
  • passata tomata
  • olives
  • artichoke
  • chick peas
  • canned fish: anchovies, mackerel, sardines.

Freezer hacks

  • green peas, always nice to throw in a boring green salad
  • red peppers
  • lime leafs
  • lemon grass
  • ginger
  • laos
  • curcuma
  • bread.
