Hungry for food? These are the best vegan breakfast joints in ASD.
Vegan food. Eating plant based can be quite a challenge in itself, let alone when eating out. But hey, if you have this list in your pocket, happy breakfast!
1. Juice Brothers. For Acai, juicy juices and even warm oats.
Juice Brothers is definitely my favourite place to have my breakfast in Amsterdam. Their Acai Bowls are the best. Spoiler: the almond does contain about a third of your daily intake on calories (yup! 780 down after your ontbijtje). Choco protein and the Acai Classic are around 400 if you need to know.
Anyways! I go there at least every week, and just switched from faving the almond one to the choco, but both are truly mouthwatering.
Juice Brothers is a genuinely good juice maker too: treat yourself to their Dutch Spice carrot juice if can’t pick any. All their ingredients are as good as they say they are. All organic, well riped, and great use of their superfoods. Juice Brothers is actually one of these companies that actually want to do something good for the people and the planet. Their prices are not low, but everything is well worth your money 🙂
2. <3 for Beter & Leuk. Cutest place in town!
A proper number 2 on my list 🙂 It is small, personal, and the food is amazing. They also sell some clothes and small things, which adds up to the atmosphere. The cafe is located in the east of the city, right next to the Amstel canal. From the city center it can be a lovely walk, or if you stay at the beautiful hotel the Volkshotel, it is just around the corner.
The address is:
1e Oosterparkstraat 91
Monday – Friday 8.30 – 17.00
Saturday – Sunday 9.30 – 17.00
3. Coffee & Coconuts: spacious and fancy
Right in the Pijp, this place is filled with tourists, urban strollers and hardworking millenials (there’s a laptopfree table <3 says enough though, doesn’t it?)
Anyways! Wether you fall into one of these categories I mentioned above or you don’t, doesn’t really matter because the place is lovely. It is wide and spacious, and seating is on different levels. The architecture of the building is definitely already a big reason to visit the place. It feels like an art-deco kind of building, and it used to be a theatre back in the romantic 20’s.
The menu is not vegan but definitely vegan-friendly. Glutenfree options are also there, and there’s even a glutenfree AND vegan option.
In summertime (or anytime) treat yourself to a Slushy Strawberry (Strawberry, limejuice, basil, watermelon, agave and ice) or a Gorilla Loco (Coconut water, oatmilk, jungle chocolate, berries, banana, almond, and monkey love). For every sold loco, they give 1€ to the Virunga Gorillas. Love for that!
Open daily: 8:00 – 23:00
Address: Ceintuurbaan 282-284
PS: also good for drinks and dinner!
4. Vegabond: vegan store & lunchroom
Vegabond opened their doors in 2014. Babet, who was a criminologist and frequent traveler of the world, lived a vegan lifestyle for some time and decided she wanted to open up her own joint. Vegabond is 100% vegan (no compromises made) yet apart for their stock, they hold a very very open vision. So completely welcome if you’re not fully vegan 😉
The menu contains all kind of super lovely dishes, smoothies and snacks. All fresh and home made, Vegabond is a must visit. You might even find some cute and lovely gifts and goodies in the store 🙂
Open Mon-Fri: 9 am -7 pm

Sun: 11 am-6 pm

5. Dophert: vegan catering, brunch, breakfast & lunch
Dophert is the vegan catering business of Laura (nice to know: she is also a very good singer!). The menu is proper cheat day friendly: burgers, sweets.. but also good salads and juices. You can find Dophert in the West of town, but their also opening up a new shop in the pijp at the Ceintuurbaan!
